I was in the grocery store yesterday and saw these beautiful babies.
Do you know what they are?
Plums?
No.
Nectarines?
Nope.
Apricots?
Nuh-uh.
They’re called pluots, a hybrid of plums and apricots but much sweeter and juicier than either. This is the Dapple Dandy variety. I’m sure some of you foodies out there have already discovered pluots but they’re new to me. Apparently the pluot was developed in the 1980’s or 90’s by a Floyd Zaiger and come in a range of colors from pink to red. I think they’re just beautiful.
I’ve got plans for these. You just wait and see.
I bet they would make a delicious Tarte Tatin – http://www.kitchenbutterfly.com/2009/08/23/pear-tarte-tatin/
Let us know soon ok…
I’ve heard of these, but never had the pleasure of eating one. Can’t wait to see what you do with them!
I’ve never noticed there were different varieties. I will definitely be looking for the Dandy 🙂
Made this with underripe nectarines. Turned out great.
Just finished eating white bean chicken chilli. Yummy. Had with homemade cornbread.
